PRAYER BOWLS

Created of gourd, these bowls hold your prayers until they are lifted to heaven. The gourds are opened, emptied and the edges sanded & finished. The bowls are then dyed and/or stained on the outside and painted with iridescent paint on the inside. The outside is painted with Cynthia's "dancing spirits" or "trees of life" with suns and crescent moons. Some have beads stitched around the openings with waxed linen thread, (the word "bead" is derived from an ancient word that means "prayer"). These bowls may be filled with spoken or written prayers. They may be "emptied" when "full", or seasonally or even annually.

Gourds, holders of the seeds of life, remind us that our prayers are seeds, too; out of our prayers come our tomorrows.
